Root canal treatment begins with the identification. The symptoms are used to diagnose the problem. After taking a radiograph of a suspect tooth, the primary and final diagnosis is determined. The infected area by slight discoloration of the teeth around it and a bacterial infection around the apex of the root. After the diagnosis is confirmed, the cavity is prepared on the tooth's surface to allow access to the root canals. The root canals can be observed from the occlussal surface after preparation of the tooth cavity, so that infected pulp tissues can be removed.

Endodontics are used to remove the pulp tissues from root channels. Endodontics are files that come in different sizes. These files are used to measure the length of the root canal, as this can differ between people or between teeth. The files are then placed from the occlusal surface into the root canals to cleanse the infected pulp. These files are flexible to facilitate the process as root canals are not always straight. They are seen with a variety of curvatures near the tip.

Above is the infected tooth that must be treated using the root canal treatment. The cause is caries infiltration within the Enamel and Dentin. This extends into the pulp and can be observed at the root apex. After the removal of pulp tissue from the root canals, empty canals must be cleaned using disinfectant and irrigation solutions to ensure no infected tissues remain within the canals.

After successfully cleaning the canals, the gutta–percha points are placed inside the empty root-canals to repair the damaged pulp tissue. The guttapercha points come in various sizes, meaning that they will completely fill the canal which was empty. The gutta-percha points are placed into the canal by applying cement on them to ensure that they can be fitted to the walls of the root canal.

After the canal is filled with the gutta percha points an X-ray is taken to determine if the points are positioned correctly and if there are any gaps. It should be possible to determine what the final outcome of the gutta-percha process will appear before beginning. If all previous instrumentation was done correctly, the point will be easy to put in. The final outcome is going to be great. Once you have confirmed that the gutta percha points are in the right place, then is the time for what restoration is required to fill in the tooth structure that was removed during the cavity preparation. A tooth-coloured restoration is preferred by patients to keep their appearance. After treatment radiographs confirm that the Root canal treatment was successful.
