The identification of an damaged tooth is the first step to root canal therapy. After taking a radiograph, the primary and final diagnosis of the infected tooth is established. The infected region is evident by a small discoloration of the area of normal teeth and the presence of infection in the annexes of the root. Following the diagnosis the surface of the tooth is prepared to access the root canals. After preparing the cavity, the root canals can be observed on the surface of the occlusal. This allows the removal of infected pulp tissue.

Endodontics are utilized to remove the pulp tissues from the roots channels. There are various sizes of endodontic file. These files are made to be used according to the length of the canal. The files are then placed in the root canals at the occlusal end to remove the pulp tissues. The files are flexible as the root canals aren't always straight and can be identified by the curvatures that are present towards the end.

The root canal treatment must be carried out on the infected teeth. This is the result of caries infiltration within Enamel and Dentin that has been able to penetrate into the pulp. As can be seen in the root anex it is the development of an abscess. After removing pulp tissue from root canals, empty canals must be cleaned using disinfectant irrigating products to make sure that there are no infected tissue remnants within the canals.

After successfully cleaning the canals, the gutta-percha points are placed into the empty root canals in order to replace the pulp tissue that was eliminated. Gutta-percha points are available in different sizes to fill the empty root canal. The gutta percha point can be adapted by using pressure to force the gutta-percha points into the canals. The gutta-percha point is then inserted into the root canal using cement.

After the gutta/percha point is put into the canal, an X-ray is taken to determine if any gaps are evident. The gutta–percha point should fit snugly enough that you can predict what the final outcome will look like before you even complete the process. If the prior procedure was performed correctly, the point is easily fitted and the result is likely to be good. Once the guttapercha points have been verified then the next stage is placing the restoration. It will be replaced by the tooth structure which was removed during cavity preparation. The majority of the time, a tooth-coloured restoration is preferred by patients for the aesthetics to be preserved. Following the procedure the radiograph proves the Root canal treatment was successful.
